Billy McDaniel wins the $10,000 APC Main EventWe wanted everyone to get a glimpse into the life of our APC Main Event winner, Billy McDaniel, and his views on poker and the exciting adventure awaiting him!

How long have you lived in Atlanta?
All my life. I’ve been married to Dawn almost 20 years and we have six kids. Four of my sons compete in the Iron Man competition.

How long have you played with the APC?
Nine years! Since August of 2005.

Do you continue to study the game?
Honestly, not any more. When I first started out I was reading books and playing and then after that I wish I had studied more. I liked “The Theory of Poker” by David Sklansky, Dan Harrington’s books (Dan has written five books), and “Caro’s Book of Poker Tells” by Mike Caro, and “Doyle Brunson’s Super System” by Doyle Brunson.

What style would you call your game?
I would say conservative.

How have you changed your game over the years?
I’ve gotten more aggressive and selective aggression really.

What was your impression of the APC $10,000 Main Event?
Great tournament! Good structure. Good competition.

How did you feel during the tournament at different levels?
Pretty much the first day we started with 20,000 in chips and I was fluctuating to 40,000 and ended first day at 41,000. Second day, I slowly progressive to 51,000 and 57,000 and when we went down to three tables I had 400,000. At final table I started with 752,000. So overall for the two days I was basically playing above short stacked all the time and familiar with and comfortable with it. Some times I can make it happen and I’m not intimidated by a big stack even though I respect it.

Have you ever played in a WSOP circuit event?
No. I’ve played in Tunica tournaments with 176 players which is sort of like the APC big tournaments.

Who are your favorite players?
Dan Harrington, Erick Lindgren, and Phil Ivey. To me, Harrington and Erick play a really well balanced selective aggression game, and Phil, he does the same thing and no fear!

What are you expecting at the WSOP $10,000 tournament?
I’d say personally the poker experience of a lifetime! Overall, I think if I have just a little luck I will make the money.

Billy is leaving on Saturday, July 5th for Las Vegas, and Monday, July 7th is his first day! He will have Tuesday off and play on Wednesday.

The 2014 World Series of Poker Event in Las Vegas started on Tuesday, May 27, and goes to Monday, July 14. There are a variety of events every day and a variety of entry fees culminating with Billy’s entry into the No-Limit Hold’em Main Event – Winner to receive $10,000,000, with three entry dates of Saturday, July 5, Sunday, July 6, and Monday, July 7!
