Danny Bavongkhoun moved to Georgia from Michigan in 2005 because of a job transfer. Danny lives in Lawrenceville with his wife and son.
How long have you played with the APC?
Been playing approximately 2 years. This will start my 3rd year.
How much have you been playing lately?
I play 2 venues and only on weekends. I don’t have as much time as before because of my job.
Who is your favorite poker player?
Phil Ivey…I like the way he controls his chips. Phil has such composure and I watch his body language. He reads players really well and his timing is precise. He is 95% correct when he moves on a player. And I like Michael Mizrachi, The Grinder, as he plays short stacks so well and how he handles the short stack.
What are your goals in the APC?
To win the $10,000 Main Event…made it to the final table this year and I was happy with my play. I did everything well and just needed a little luck. Went in with the best hand and lost to the underdog. I’m a little disappointed but there is next year! I really want to take the shot at the $10,000 Main Event in Las Vegas.
Advice for new players?
Have patience! Rate your hand to your opponents hand. You have to win the hand to keep grinding.
How did it feel to win the prestigious AllStar Tournament?
Really exciting to win that big. I’ve been to a lot of the APC tournaments and have gone up to third in the Grand Championship, and to win the AllStar Tournament was great! Maybe next time I will win first in the Grand too.
I’ve increased my skill playing with APC members. I feel really confident that the strategy I picked up will help me in future tournaments. I watch and see how my opponents play, and then I can take them out. The APC is great the way the games are set up and should offer more big events…and the dealers know what they are doing!
