Bill Boakes started playing poker as an adult in the early 90’s. He had a retiree working for him parttime knicknamed “The Silver Fox.” He used to take him down to the old Seminole Indian Bingo Hall that had a poker room in it located in Hollywood, Florida. The game back then was East Coast Stud. He would play all day with the rest of the retired bluehaired sharks from New York. He knew about Hold’em and the rest of the games and would play occasionally with friends. He was in Pensacola during the 2003 poker resurgence and began playing Hold’em again earnestly online and at the poker rooms in Biloxi. It wasn’t until he came to Georgia and discovered the Atlanta Poker Club, that he found and made friends that loved poker as much as he did. Bill started dealing with the APC in February of 2007 and became the Director of Operations later that summer.

Who has influenced your play the most? Back in the day…”The Silver Fox,” Here in Atlanta…Rob Smith, Travis Hart, Jay Jones and Aimee Kargen.
What else do you want to accomplish with the APC? As a player, I believe I am one of the first to qualify for all four of the Quad 4 Promotion Tournaments. I would like to win one. The Grand Championship and the All Star Championship have both been in my grasp only to elude me. I would like to take both of those down.
Any advice to new members joining the APC? One of the kicks I get is seeing a player grow. Seeing the light bulb of realization go off in someone’s eyes because “they get it” brings me satisfaction. Pay attention.
