Jud

Prichard

Member Since – May 2006

Total Wins – 16

Winter ’09 Grand Champion

Jud grew up playing cards and board games with his family. He got interested in poker at age 16, playing small stakes with friends, primarily with pass the deal ring games like follow the Queen, 7 card stud, Night Baseball, etc. He won his first tournament he ever played (5 card draw with a group of 50 friends) in 2000. Work severely limited playing time until the Moneymaker boom when poker popped up in every bar. Jud played in a few bars that held their own leagues with moderate success, and a very limited perception of how to actually play NL Texas Hold’em. It was not until he walked into Southern Comfort in May 2006 that he learned about what a DONKEY was in his first APC outing. Jud played hands that had names like the mountain (K, 2), the dead mans hand (A, 8), the Dolly Parton (9, 5) making terrible calls of good bets and sucking out. Whenever he took someone out he was called a DONKEY. Jud did not do that well that night, but returned off and on until about a year later when he changed jobs and decided to try to learn. Toward the end of Season 10, Jud started coming out to play more. He listened to the players that were telling him things and tried to understand and use them. The biggest thing Jud has learned was that you never stop learning this game.

Favorite Poker Players – Daniel Negreanu for his ability to get information from others and use it, Phil Ivey for his intimidation and solid quiet reads, and of course Doyle Brunson for his longevity and success in what is very much a game of skill.

Who has influenced my play the most? – This is a tough call. I have probably have to say Travis Hart has had the greatest influence on my game. He questions my bad plays, and confirms good ones, both with very solid poker reasoning (odds, outs, my read). There are too many others to name that have influenced my play through their own styles and thoughts on different plays, as well as what I have learned playing against them.

Goals in APC? – Win – does not matter if it is All Stars, a Venue Championship, or a Nightly tourney, if I can put myself in position to win consistently I think I will have developed the tools needed to play this game well anywhere.

Advice for new member? – Pay attention and ask questions.Learn your own style and continue to adapt and improve it. There are a broad range of player types (from DONKEY to Very Skilled), a variety of tournament field sizes, and great competition. You can not drink or eat your way to the final table, to make it consistently you need to learn how to play. You can learn a lot if you want to. There are lots of great people in the APC. If you just want to come out, meet new people, have fun, and play cards, just keep the game in perspective.
