The Atlanta Poker Club $999 Grand Championship was held on Saturday, December 14th at the American Legion in Duluth. There were 298 players qualified for the tournament that is the highlight of an entire APC season.
The prizes were $700 WSOP/WPT Package + Invite to Yearly Championship (priceless) + 6 Month V.I.P. Membership $99 + Rectangular APC Silver Coin
2nd Place Won $150 + APC Gear
3rd Place Won $50 + APC Gear
4th – 10th Place Won APC Gear
TODD BROWN emerged victorious and beat a field of 178 players!
Todd Brown was born and raised in Winder, Georgia, and has a 13 year old daughter. Todd has been playing Texas Hold’em for about five years.
How long have you played with the APC?
Since I was invited to play the APC Online game by Jason Spry about five years ago, and was hooked from then on. Played a couple of times with another club and didn’t enjoy the experience.
Who has influenced your play the most?
I like Phil Ivey’s play because he’s calm and meticulous and plays the player and not the cards. Not flamboyant! I also think that Jason Moore getting me to deal for the APC has helped and influenced my game and I believe that any player who deals will become a better player.
What is your advice for new players?
To start out at a smaller venue. Don’t play at the bigger venues with six to seven tables and you will enjoy the experience better. Get comfortable with live play and then go and play in the bigger tournaments.
What are your goals in the APC?
i would like to win the APC $10,000 Main Event and play in the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. I would also like to help the APC expand successfully into other areas…maybe Athens.
How did it feel to win the Grand Championship?
It didn’t set in for about three days. I credit Rachel Nowell for helping me win the Grand Championship by calming me down when we were 4-handed. I remember saying, when we were down to two tables, that I just wanted to make the final table and get an APC T-shirt.
