William Beam won the prestigious AllStars Tournament in Season 26 Summer 2012. William moved to Atlanta in 2002 and and has been playing poker since 2005. He first played with the Atlanta Poker Club in Season 8.
How much have you been playing lately?
Not much…once a week maybe. Its been once a week for the last 6 months. Before that, I played several times a week. I only slowed down because of other interests.
What are your goals in the APC?
I wanted to be the first to win all 4 major tournaments. I’ve won three of them…the Yearly is the only one I haven’t won. And now of course the Tournament of Champions is fairly new and I haven’t won that or the new Main Event.
What is your style of play?
Old school…like a 40 or 50 year old player and not like an Internet guy….pre-online poker player…memory instead of sheer agression…instinct and memory and I watch what everyone does and play off that.
Advice for new players?
Don’t be afraid of your hands is number one. Number two, pay attention. Number three, don’t be afraid to make a mistake…and don’t let a mistake ruin you for the rest of the tournament.
How did it feel to win the prestigious All Star Tournament?
Felt good. Felt like I played well and read my situtations correctly and used my stack to take advantage of the other players. Since not playing as much lately it was great to pull this out.
What are your future goals in the APC?
My next goal really is to win the Yearly. Just want to win every tournament I play in…and that is always my next goal.
I enjoy our League and I’m so excited to see we are bringing in new players and that we are keeping up with expansion. When we lose one venue we bring one in and we are the best League in town.
