AllStars Champion – Season 32 – Summer 2013

Will Collins is a two-time AllStars Champion. Will also won in Season 19 Winter 2010. He has lived in Atlanta since 1993.

How long have you played with the APC?
I remember playing at Jeffrey’s in Suwanee and I started in Season 2, 2004. I did take 2 1/2 years off from playing because of my job. My work schedule didn’t allow any outside activities.

How much have you been playing lately?
In this Season (Season 33), three nights a week consistently…Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

Who is your favorite poker player?
Daniel Negreanu. Actually, a cross between Daniel and Sam Farha. The old time gambler feel of Sam and the brilliance of Daniel.

What are your goals in the APC?
More than anything is to find a venue that I enjoy the fellowship of the players at that venue, and having a good time. To play solid poker because I like the venue I’m playing at and I don’t mind spending money for the fellowship.

Advice for new players?
Verbalize their intentions and don’t be afraid to ask dealers and Tournament Directors for help until they become familiar with the rules and the chip values. A lot of new players get frustrated when they are corrected.

Who has influenced your play most?
I have not read every single poker book out there. I’ve read a few on basic strategy. It is way important that you create your own style of play instead of emulate others. Other players understand your strategy if you copy a book’s play. Karen Brooks and Travis Hart have helped me the most. They helped me reinforce the good things I was doing and Travis helped me be less predictable.

How did it feel to win the prestigious AllStars Tournament for a second time?
Winning the second time was a validation of my play through the entire season and the concentration it took to get to the AllStars. I had made the decision to play to the best of my ability for that season. To really step up and play solid poker for an entire season and it rewarded me with the AllStars win. When we got to two tables and the blinds and antes started, I had a really good understanding of my position at my table and the initial starting pot before the flop, and I was playing solid position poker. Picking up the blinds and antes when possible. Once or twice a round I was picking up blinds and antes from limpers. I was very aware of position at the table. I would take advantage of other players weakness. I made solid raises with solid hands.

Have you played in casinos or in the WSOP or WPT?
I have played cash in casinos – 1/2 and 2/5 No-Limit. I haven’t played in WSOP or WPT events.

I really appreciate the APC that allows you to play in a real casino game compared to the other poker clubs out there.
